Our New Draft and Make Your Own Dress Workshop is a fun and productive two day workshop aimed at those who have experience in sewing. You will be spending time sewing with others in our studio space surrounded by beautiful fabrics, while learning and developing your skills.

During this workshop you will begin by taking a thorough set of measurements to then create an ‘Easy Fitting’ bodice and sleeve block tailored to your body. This will eliminate the need to make fit adjustments to a pattern as you will have your own unique block to start from.

From here we will learn how to make adjustments to this pattern to create your own dress, catered to your unique style. If a dress is not for you, you can also use this block to make a blouse or top.

This block has a different shape and style to the ‘Close Fitting Block’ we have previously made in our Bodice Block Workshops. This block has a similar style to the Megan Nielsen Sudley Dress and Blouse, Closet Core Patterns Cielo Top and Dress or Nina Lee Bakerloo Dress and Blouse.

The block can be transformed into a loose fitting dress or blouse with a few simple techniques which will be covered on the second day.

In the photos you can see examples of garments Sharlene, the course tutor, has made with her own block.

We will provide pattern paper, rulers and calico for sewing your toile. You will need to provide your ‘final’ fabric for sewing your dress or blouse. Viscose, Lyocell or lightweight cotton are ideal for this pattern. You will need approximately 3 to 5 metres for a dress and 2 to 3 metres for a top or blouse. (You can use the patterns mentioned above for reference to get an idea of fabric requirements for your size) You will need 0.5 metres for interfacing, matching thread and a button for the closure. We will help you purchase the right fabric and haberdashery nearer the workshop and provide you with the discount code.

Experience: This workshop is aimed at those who have experience in sewing and have a thorough understanding of how patterns are put together.

*Please note that depending on the complexity of your garment you may not get it completed within the 2 days. However we will ensure you have the instructions to finish it in your own time at home.

Supplies: You will need to bring your own sewing machine and tools (scissors, pins, etc) as well pre-washed fabric for making the final garment. You can use a drapey woven fabrics such as viscose poplin, tencel twill or cotton lawn.  You will be able to purchase haberdashery items on the day if you will require.

Pattern paper, calico and curved ruler will be provided.

Group size: There will be space for up to 6 people to attend this workshop.

Time:  10am - 6pm including breaks.
