Jersey / Knit
Jersey is a knit fabric used predominantly for clothing. The fabric can be a very stretchy single knitting, usually light-weight, or it can be a double knitted jersey (interlock jersey), with less stretch, that creates a heavier fabric of two single jerseys knitted together. Jersey is considered to be an excellent fabric for draped garments, such as dresses, cardigens and tops.
Lightweight knitted fabric is often used to make T-shirts, tops, dresses, children’s clothes, nightwear and underwear. Double knit, heavier jersey is great for dresses requiring less stretch, skirts, casual zipped jackets or cardigans and tops.
Chose a stretch or ballpoint machine needle and a narrow zig-zag or stretch stitch on your machine when sewing with jersey fabric.
