Sew Summer Wardrobe - Make your own Top, Dress and Jacket from woven fabrics - June, July & August

Does sewing tops, dresses or jackets appeal to you but you find it daunting to pick the right pattern, size or to tackle the project, including fitting on your own? 

Our beginner friendly “Sew Summer Wardrobe” Workshops are aimed at helping you create the elegant, timeless and beautiful pieces that you will want to recreate countless times and you’d want to reach out for many occasions. At these workshops we will cover all the basic principles of dressmaking, from taking measurements to choosing the right fabric for the pattern, choosing the right size, making pattern adjustments based on your body measurements, cutting out, setting in sleeves, facings, plackets, collars, burrito method, sewing buttonholes, gathering, finishing touches such as french seams and flat fell seams and more, whilst sewing the actual garments that you can wear with pride.

This is a series of monthly workshops, taking place once every month during the period of June to August in 2026. The specific dates scheduled are 21 June, 11 July and 30 August. Each session will be focused on sewing different patterns / garments and ideally using different types of woven fabrics. 

You can purchase these workshops individually as well, however by purchasing a block of 3 sessions you are saving £25 plus it guarantees your space on all of them. 

During these workshops you will learn the techniques you need to master sewing with different types of fabrics and using different dressmaking sewing techniques.

In June you will have the option to make summer staple Ashton Top or Ogden camisole, we will also learn how to vintner them into dresses. In July you will be making Donny shirt, Canyon Top  or Canyon Dress and in August once you build the confidence you will have the option to make late summer, early autumn wardrobe staple light jacket using Modern Sewing Co over-shirt pattern.

Each time you will be spending a day sewing with others as part of a small group in our studio space surrounded by beautiful fabrics, while learning and developing your skills. This includes measuring, making adjustments if needed, cutting out and then sewing. 

You will also have the opportunity to shop for the fabrics and other sewing supplies during breaks or after the workshop.

Experience:

This series of workshops is for all levels of sewists, from beginners to experienced (as long as you can use a sewing machine). 

Supplies: Prior to the workshop we will contact you to help choose the project and suitable fabric for it. If needed, you will then be supplied with a sewing kit including fabric, paper sewing pattern with instructions, thread and any other sewing notions required for making your garment, in time for you to pre wash the fabric. You have the option to visit Lamazi studio for purchasing these supplies in person or we will send you a payment link with the options of fabrics to choose from along with the workshop exclusive discount code. The sewing kit or pattern is not included in the workshop listed price.

Each workshop participant can benefit from using a special discount code for purchases on the day.

You will need to bring your own sewing machine on the day. Please let us know in advance if you’d like to borrow one of our machines. 

Group size: there will be a space for up to 5 people to attend the workshop but the course will go ahead regardless of the group size. This is an ideal number for you to enjoy company while sewing and also ensure that everyone will have plenty of time with your tutor for tips and guidance. 

Time: 10am - 4pm including lunch and tea / coffee break. 

Location: Lamazi Fabrics Studio is located in the centre of Horsham in West Sussex at  Unit 1, City Business Centre, 6 Brighton Road, Horsham,  RH13 5BB. Free parking is available on site. 

We will provide *tea/coffee and snacks. Please bring your own packed lunch.

- Types of woven fabrics and how to work with them.

- How to use a commercial patterns, essential pattern alterations based on your measurements  and fitting. 

- Dressmaking techniques and finishing touches relevant for each garment: such as sewing with french seams, using bias binding,  burrito method and more.
