Do you find fitting commercial patterns challenging, or have a perfectly fitting basic pattern or a block that you’d like to take to the next level and create garments in your preferred style?

Our 2 day pattern fitting and pattern alterations workshop will allow you to take your dressmaking skills to the next level by learning how to alter commercial sewing patterns to fit to your unique body and also how to add new design features to your own patterns.

This involves taking accurate measurements, choosing the correct pattern size and making necessary pattern alterations.

You will learn how to adjust trouser patten to make them suit your measurements before making a toile and final garment. Making these necessary alternations at start will help you sew a better fitted toile which will need less adjustments afterwords.

This is a two day workshop.

During Day 1 of this course you will learn:

Taking your body measurements
Picking the right size and fabric for your project
Finished garment measurements, wearing ease and design ease.
Pattern alterations such as: grading between sizes, adjusting the rise and crotch, shortening or lengthening the pattern, full tummy adjustment, full or flat seat adjustment, swayback adjustment, altering the shape of leg / basic pattern cutting skills, amending the waistband.

During the 2nd day of the workshop you will be able to put your learnings into practice by working on the actual trouser sewing pattern, making alternations needed for your measurements and sewing a final garment. Your tutor can help you choose the sewing pattern.

At this workshop you will spend a day sewing with others as part of a small group in our studio space surrounded by beautiful fabrics, while learning and developing your skills.

You will also have the opportunity to shop for the fabrics and other sewing supplies during breaks after the workshop.

Experience:

This workshop is aimed at all levels, from beginners to confident seamstresses as long as you can use the sewing machine and understand garment construction.. It is a perfect opportunity for building your confidence in a safe and supportive environment and for making sewing friends.

Supplies:

For part 1 you will need a notebook, a pen and a tape. We will supply pattern paper, rulers and calico for this workshop.

For part 2 you will need to bring your sewing machine and tools. You will also need a sewing pattern and fabric which you can purchase after part 1.

Group size: there will be a space for up to 5 people to attend the workshop but the course will go ahead regardless of the group size. This is an ideal number for you to enjoy company while sewing and also ensures that everyone will have plenty of time with the tutor for tips and guidance.

Time: 10am - 4pm including lunch and tea / coffee break. Please arrive early for quick refreshments and chatter. We will start promptly at 10am.

Location: Lamazi Fabrics Studio is located in the centre of Horsham in West Sussex at Unit 1, City Business Centre, 6 Brighton Road, Horsham, RH13 5BB. Free parking is available on site (subject to availability).

We will provide tea/coffee and snacks. Please bring your own packed lunch.
