Sew Spring Wardrobe - Make your own Top or Dress from Woven Fabrics - March workshop

Does sewing blouses, shirts or dresses appeal to you but you find it daunting to pick the right pattern and fabric or to tackle the project on your own? 

Our beginner friendly “Sew Spring Wardrobe” Workshops are aimed at helping you create the elegant, timeless and beautiful pieces that you will want to recreate countless times and you’d want to reach out for many occasions. At these workshops we will cover all the basic principles of dressmaking, from taking measurements to choosing the right fabric for the pattern, cutting out, setting in sleeves, sewing buttonholes, gathering, finishing touches such as french seams and using burrito method and more, whilst sewing the actual garments that you can wear with pride. Each session will be focused on sewing different patterns / garments and ideally using different types of woven fabrics. You can purchase these workshops individually as well, however by purchasing a block of 3 sessions you are saving £25 plus it guarantees your space on all of them. 

The first workshop of “Sew Spring Wardrobe” takes place on the 8th of March 10am-5pm. You will have the option to make either Remy Raglan top, Castagnette Blouse or Demeter Dress / Top during this workshop. 

During this workshop you will learn the basic dressmaking techniques, starting from taking measurements, using paper patterns and different types of woven fabrics and making adjustments if needed to cutting out, inserting sleeves, gathering and seam finishes.

You will be spend a day sewing with others as part of a small group in our studio space surrounded by beautiful fabrics, while learning and developing your skills. 

You will also have the opportunity to shop for the fabrics and other sewing supplies during breaks after the workshop.

Experience:

This workshop is aimed at beginners to confident beginners, but students with all experience levels can attend as long as you can use a sewing machine. It is a perfect opportunity for building your confidence in a safe and supportive environment and for making sewing friends. 

Supplies: Prior to the workshop we will contact you to help choose the project and suitable fabric for it. If needed, you will then be supplied with a sewing kit including fabric, paper sewing pattern with instructions, thread and any other sewing notions required for making your garment, in time for you to pre wash the fabric. You have the option to visit Lamazi studio for purchasing these supplies in person or we will send you a payment link with the options of fabrics to choose from along with the workshop exclusive discount code. The sewing kit or pattern is not included in the workshop listed price.

Each workshop participant can benefit from using a special discount code for purchases on the day.

You will need to bring your own sewing machine and overlocker (if using one) on the day. Please let us know in advance if you’d like to borrow one of our machines. 

Group size: there will be a space for up to 5 people to attend the workshop but the course will go ahead regardless of the group size. This is an ideal number for you to enjoy company while sewing and also ensures that everyone will have plenty of time with the tutor for tips and guidance. 

Time: 10am - 5pm including lunch and tea / coffee break. Please arrive early for quick refreshments and chatter. We will start promptly at 10am.

Location: Lamazi Fabrics Studio is located in the centre of Horsham in West Sussex at  Unit 1, City Business Centre, 6 Brighton Road, Horsham,  RH13 5BB. Free parking is available on site (subject to availability). 

We will provide tea/coffee and snacks. Please bring your own packed lunch.

- Finding the grain of the fabric and cutting out

- Types of woven fabrics and how to work with them.

- Dressmaking techniques and finishing touches relevant for each garment: such as interfacing, sewing with french seams, gathering, using bias binding, setting in sleeves, hemming and topstitching where necessary.

- Different dressmaking tools and their use.
