Essential Dressmaking Skills - July

Does making your own clothes using commercial sewing patterns appeal to you but you don’t know where to start or you find tackling the challenge by yourself overwhelming? Or have you started dressmaking recently and would like to learn more or new skills to make beautiful clothes that fit your body and achieve perfect finish?

Our Essential Dressmaking skills is perfect for you if you’d like to learn all the essential sewing skills for making your own clothes. This includes learning how to read the sewing patterns and understand its terminology, taking accurate measurements, picking your size, learning about different fabric types for different projects, finding grainline, cutting out, different types of seams and seam finishes such as french seams, stabilising or fusing the fabric, pressing, stay-stitching, edgestitching and topstitching, hemming, plus sewing zips and buttonholes. 

This course can also be tailored to your individual learning needs and experience. 

You will be working on the actual simple garment while learning all these skills in the safe and supportive environment. 

At this workshop you will spend a day sewing with others as part of a small group in our studio space surrounded by beautiful fabrics, while learning and developing your skills. 

You will also have the opportunity to shop for the fabrics and other sewing supplies during breaks after the workshop.

Experience:

This workshop is aimed at complete beginners to confident beginners who would like to advanced their skills. It is a perfect opportunity for building your confidence in a safe and supportive environment and for making sewing friends. 

After this course, you can advance your skills further by attending on of our pattern alteration and pattern cutting courses or a specific garment making workshops. 

Supplies:

You will need to bring your sewing machine and tools or use one of our studio machines. You will also need a sewing pattern and fabric which you can purchase before the workshops with our guidance. 

Each workshop participant can benefit from using a special discount code for purchases on the day.

Group size: there will be a space for up to 5 people to attend the workshop but the course will go ahead regardless of the group size. This is an ideal number for you to enjoy company while sewing and also ensures that everyone will have plenty of time with the tutor for tips and guidance. 

Time: 10am - 5pm including lunch and tea / coffee break. Please arrive early for quick refreshments and chatter. We will start promptly at 10am.

Location: Lamazi Fabrics Studio is located in the centre of Horsham in West Sussex at  Unit 1, City Business Centre, 6 Brighton Road, Horsham,  RH13 5BB. Free parking is available on site (subject to availability). 

We will provide tea/coffee and snacks. Please bring your own packed lunch.
