Beautiful Tessuti Patterns Hilary Top by Rachel

Hello everyone,

I am Rachel, also known as @rach_stitched_up on Instagram and Stitched Up on YouTube and I am so excited to be part of the Lamazi Fabrics Blogger Team.

For my first make I chose this beautiful blue double gauze fabric with gold dots called Dew Drop to make the Tessuti Patterns Hilary Top. I’ve had this pattern in my stash for while and thought it would be that perfect transitional piece as we move into spring here in the UK.

This pattern is designed for woven fabrics and as I haven’t had much experience with double gauze before, I felt this fabric would be perfect for spring whilst also giving me the opportunity to work with a new to me fabric. The pattern suggests around 1.7m of fabric to make this top, as I am 5’10 I chose just under 2m to ensure I would have enough to add the length that I would need to make sure it would fit me perfectly.

Double gauze is a natural fabric and needs a prewash to ensure any shrinkage occurs before you sew with it, I had to adapt the peplum on this pattern as I didn’t quite have enough after washing to cut the deep peplum of the Hilary and decided to omit the elastic in the waist to leave the finished top as a longline top with a pleated frill. Though it’s not quite true to the original pattern I love the finished result, its loose, breathable and shows off the fabric beautifully and I love this cute little top!

I adore the colour of this blue, the fabric was easy to work with and was perfect for showing off the design of this top. I’ll definitely make this pattern again.

Until next time,

Rachel x

  • Lovely make! It’s great to see how the gold spots are on an actual garment. It’s really lovely. 😍
