Sateen Fabrics
Sateen fabrics have a beautiful dull sheen and silky smooth texture. A sateen weave has a tight weave with a prevalence of weft threads on the surface, giving the fabric its dull sheen as opposed to the shine of a satin.
Sateen fabrics can be made from various fibres, including cotton, viscose and Tencel.
Our blog posts “Inspiration for Sewing with Cotton Sateen” and “Lamazi Garden of Dreams” have more information about these fabrics along with information for sewing with them.
When sewing with a sateen fabric it is advisable to use fine and sharp needles and pins due to the tight weave.
