Our New Draft and Make Your Own Casual Jacket Workshop is a fun and productive two day workshop aimed at those who have experience in sewing. You will be spending time sewing with others in our studio space surrounded by beautiful fabrics, while learning and developing your skills.
During this workshop you will begin by taking a thorough set of measurements to then create an ‘Easy Fitting’ Jacket and sleeve block tailored to your body. This will eliminate the need to make fit adjustments to a pattern as you will have your own unique block to start from. From here we will learn how to make adjustments to this pattern to create your own wearable jacket, adding details such as collars, pockets and button stands, to create a jacket tailored to your own unique style.
You can see examples of the type of garment you will be able to make from this block in the line drawings. This block is ideal for making “Chanel” style jackets with more casual fit. It is also similar to the Grainline Studio Tamarack Jacket, Friday Pattern Company Cambria Duster or Closet Core Sienna Maker Jacket. You can also find sketches of examples of the types of jacket you can make in the photos.
We will provide pattern paper, rulers and calico for sewing your toile. You will need to provide your ‘final’ fabric for sewing your jacket. We recommend ‘bottom weight’ fabrics for this garment, such as cotton twill, cotton gabardine, lightweight wool, corduroy, flannel or denim. You can also use knitted jacquard fabrics for this style of jacket. You will need 2 to 4 metres of fabric for your pattern depending on your size (you can reference the suggested patterns for an idea of how much you will need for your closest size). You will also need 1 metre of interfacing and buttons if required for the closure. We will assist you purchase the right fabric nearer the workshop and provide you with the discount code.
Experience: This workshop is aimed at those who have experience in sewing and have a thorough understanding of how patterns are put together.
*Please note that depending on the complexity of your garment you may not get it completed within the 2 days. However we will ensure you have the instructions to finish it in your own time at home.
Supplies: You will need to bring your own sewing machine and tools (scissors, pins, etc) as well pre-washed fabric for making the final garment. You will be able to purchase haberdashery items on the day if you will require.
Pattern paper, calico and curved ruler will be provided.
